They Came on a Saturday!
Their faces say it all.
These girls just received hygiene kits filled with reusable pads, underwear, soap, a small wash tub, and a carry bag they can use with confidence.
They came on a Saturday!
School is out right now between terms, but these girls put on their uniforms and showed up anyway.
Ready to learn. Ready for something better.
They were fully focused as Nurse Lucy and Betty, our social worker, walked them through something life-changing. Not only their health, but their rights as young women.
They are told something many have never heard before. You deserve to be safe. And if you are not, there is someone here who will help you.
Speaking up is not easy. But now they know they are not alone.
We are also training some of the older girls to become allies for the younger ones, helping them find support when they need it most. Teacher Brenda joined as well, standing alongside them and reinforcing that support.
This was the first group of 55 girls from Butende Primary School.
For many of them, this is the first time they feel seen. Not overlooked. Not dismissed. Seen and cared for.
Too often, they have been made to feel like they don't have a voice. This is where that begins to change.
Next, the girls at Ediruma Primary School will receive their kits.
The girls at Butende School and our team- Hilda, Betty, Lucy, and Aminsi, put together a little thank you video for you!
Because of you, this is happening right now. I hope you enjoy the pics and video, and seeing what you are making possible for these girls!
We are so grateful you are part of this!
Mary
P.S. The energy in the room that day was something we will not forget anytime soon. There is a quiet kind of confidence growing in these girls, and it is powerful to witness.
