Spotlight on Hilda!
This week, I wanted to introduce you to, and shine a spotlight on, Namuwanga Hilda who is our lead program coordinator in Uganda. She is always ready with a welcoming smile and has a wonderful sense of humor. You see her in most of our photos and videos.
Hilda started volunteering with us in 2018. She helped Prossy out on many of our programs and she really enjoyed spending time with the girls at our vocational center. Last year, Hilda came on board to be our program coordinator.
With a Bachelor's degree in public administration and management from St. Lawrence University in Uganda, Hilda's knowledge and experience have been a great fit for CLP! She also completed a certificate in organizational behavior from Makland Institute. She has previously worked for other organizations such as Ten Mangoes and Grace for Mothers in Mbarra.
With Kamuli District having the second highest rate of teen pregnancy and child marriages in the country, Hilda sees our programs as critical to breaking the cycle of poverty. She says it's our focus on helping teen mothers and children that drew her to working with us.
Hilda says, “It's very difficult when you are out in the communities to see children who have no hope of getting an education, but your hands are tied. I joined CLP so that I could be an advocate.”
Indeed, Hilda's compassion, empathy, and calm presence make her someone that our girls and women seek out. She is always there without judgment to listen and help guide the girls. Hilda lives in Kamuli town and is a single mother herself, raising her eight-year-old daughter.
We can always count on Hilda to be calm in just about any situation. She has a way of taking in all the information and then suggesting solutions. It's been wonderful to watch her grow in confidence over the past year in her role.
She, along with our other team members, has grown our programs to help many more teen girls and families.
I think you can see in our pics and videos how much Hilda loves helping others, and she especially loves holding the new babies!
You might also notice that her hairstyle changes frequently, which I tease her about, as the girls in our hairdressing program often practice on her!
Thank you for all you do and for partnering with us and investing in the future of children!
With Gratitude,
Mary
