A Safe Space

On any given day, you can stop by our Girls' Vocational Center in Buwudha village and you will see it packed to the walls!

While the girls in our tailoring program are learning, many of their young children are crawling around under the tables and in front of the center. It's been working, but it hasn't been the ideal situation.

Last week, we were fortunate to secure additional space in the room just behind our tailoring classroom! Now, we'll be able to set up a space where the children can rest and play safely. We're also going to set up a “lending closet” with baby supplies for our teen moms.

This space will make such a difference for the babies and toddlers. It keeps them away from the busy road that is in front of our center. They'll have some toys and books to play with that will help them learn and we'll be able to provide some nutritious food for them when they're at the center.

This additional space also gives us a central place to provide counseling when needed, as well as reproductive health information.

In the coming weeks, we'll be getting some mattresses, blankets, toys, books, first aid supplies, and food items to have for the babies.  We are all so excited for this opportunity to better help our teen moms and their children.  Having an employable skill, healthy children, and a support system helps break the cycle of poverty for these girls.

If you'd like to make a mid-year donation and help support the girls' education and supplies for the children, it's easy to do by clicking on the button below.

*I know we often have a surplus of baby supplies here in the U.S. and I wish I could bring suitcases full over to Uganda or ship them. However, it's just not possible or practical right now. The shipping costs far outweigh the cost of buying in Uganda and there is no guarantee the items would get there.

I'm looking forward to sharing more pics and video with you when we have the supplies in place for our little nursery.

Thank you for partnering with us and investing in the future of the children!

With Gratitude,

Mary
