Reset and Recharge
Teacher Sharifa and the girls in the tailoring program
Thanks for the many comments on Tibenda Phiona's story last week. I always enjoy hearing from you, and we'll be bringing you more of those in the near future.
You are making such a difference in their lives!
Someone asked me the other day if I worked around the clock! Not quite, and I'm trying to get better at asking for help and taking a break to recharge!
Last week, I was able to get away for a few days to visit family and go to the New York State Blues Festival in Syracuse. It was fantastic, and it was great to see thousands of people coming together to enjoy music. It's a reminder of how important the arts are in our lives.
My husband and I also took a bike ride on the Erie Canal trail. It's a great resource and a lot of fun. We even fit in a hike!
It's been a busy week for our team in Uganda. They met for their monthly planning meeting to report progress and discuss areas of need and growth. I'll be sharing more about this next week. Our team works incredibly hard, often in very challenging conditions. They were able to have a meal together, relax, and reflect on progress. This is the progress that you make possible with your donations and support!
The girls in our tailoring program have been learning how to make school uniforms. All schools, both public and private, require uniforms that families must provide. Madam Sharifa, one of the tailoring instructors, will be giving the girls a practical test to assess their progress and skills.
Being able to make the uniforms with quality will open up jobs for some of the girls.
Once we can grow our Vocational Center space, we hope to be able to accept sewing contracts from some schools. Our goal is always sustainability and giving people the resources and skills to support themselves.
Thank you for all you do and for investing in the children's future!
As we approach the first day of summer, I hope you take some time to relax, get outside, and recharge!
With Gratitude,
Mary
