What Courage Looks Like: Jamira’s Story
Meet Jamira
When Jamira walked through the doors of our Vocational Center in January, she wasn't just looking to learn tailoring. She was looking for a chance to rebuild her life.
At 19 years old, Jamira is already the mother of two young children, five-year-old Namusobya and two-and-a-half-year-old Akwilifu. She was married at just 15, hoping to build a stable family. Instead, she endured years of domestic violence, believing things might eventually change.
When the situation became too dangerous, local village leaders stepped in to help. With their support, Jamira made the courageous decision to leave for the safety of herself and her children. It meant walking away with no income, no security, and starting over from scratch.
Then came a conversation that changed everything. Jane, one of our current students, told Jamira about our Vocational Center.
"You can learn a skill here and earn for your children."
Those simple words gave Jamira hope.
Today, she is learning tailoring alongside other women who are building brighter futures. She is mastering skills that will allow her to earn an income, support her family, and create the stability every mother wants for her children.
That is thanks to you! Without our center, Jamira and the other girls would have no other resources.
The biggest transformation isn't just what Jamira is creating with fabric. It's what she's rebuilding within herself:
"I stayed because I thought things would change, but I realized that my children and I deserved peace and a brighter future. Now I want to learn a skill, earn an income with my own hands, and show my children, and other young women who are afraid to leave violent homes, that a woman can stand on her own."
Today, Hilda, our Program Director, says Jamira is thriving.
She comes to class eager to learn. The exhaustion that once showed on her face has been replaced with hope. She brings her children with her each day, knowing they are safe while she learns the skills that will help provide for their future.
This is what your support makes possible.
Not just vocational training, but second chances. Not just new skills, but renewed confidence.
Not just hope for today, but the opportunity to build a different future.
Thank you for being part of stories like Jamira's!
With gratitude,
Mary
P.S. Jamira brings her children with her to the Vocational Center every day. While she learns tailoring, they play safely nearby in our baby room. That simple gift of peace of mind gives her the freedom to focus, learn, and build the future she's always wanted for them.
