The Future You Make Possible

Meet Naigaga Mary

Tailoring and hairdressing classes are thriving at our Girls' Vocational Center because of supporters like you. Over the past several weeks, our advisor Hilda has been sitting down with each young woman to hear her story, her challenges, and her hopes for the future she is working to build.

This week, we want you to meet Naigaga Mary.

Her story is a powerful reminder of what your support is making possible every single day.

Naigaga is a young mother of three who joined our tailoring program this January at our Girls' Vocational Center in Buwudha. Today, she is learning professional tailoring skills, confidently using a sewing machine, and building a new future for herself and her children.

But her journey to get here has not been easy.

As a young girl, Naigaga's father dreamed of seeing her finish school. But after becoming pregnant while still in secondary school, her future changed. Even then, her father promised she would return to school after giving birth.

Tragically, he later died in a fatal accident, leaving Naigaga devastated and without the support she depended on. Having already lost her mother years earlier, she suddenly found herself trying to navigate life, motherhood, and survival on her own.

Marriage seemed like the only option, which is often the case for girls in rural Uganda, so that they can survive. Unfortunately, Naigaga faced years of hardship and emotional abuse from her husband and his family while raising her children.

Yet even during those difficult years, Naigaga continued sewing clothes by hand whenever she could.

Then, her neighbor Faith, who was in our tailoring program last year, noticed both her talent and her struggle and encouraged her to come to our vocational center.

This January, Naigaga joined our tailoring program.  Hilda said, “We embraced her and showed her that as a woman she has her rights."

Today, because of the generosity of supporters like you, she is gaining real skills, growing in confidence, and discovering new independence and hope for the future.

She recently made the courageous decision to leave her husband's home and return to her father's family home so she could continue her training without interruption and create a more stable future for her children.

Your support is doing more than teaching vocational skills.

You are helping young women like Naigaga rediscover their strength, rebuild their confidence, and believe that a different future is possible.

Thank you for being part of stories like hers!

With Gratitude,

Mary

P.S. Because of your support, young mothers like Naigaga are discovering they are capable of more than survival. They are building futures filled with dignity, confidence, and hope.
